Tragedy struck in Gwinnett County when 29-year-old Bradley Coleman was shot and killed during an attempted carjacking outside of a QuikTrip gas station on Peachtree Parkway in Gwinnett County, Georgia. Coleman was putting air in his tires when assailants tried to steal his car. When he tried to stop his car from being stolen, he was shot and killed. Coleman was a beloved father, friend, and coach. He excelled in athletics at both the high school and collegiate levels, playing football at Southern University in Louisiana.
A GoFundMe has already been set up by Brooke Watson to support his daughter.
Senseless gun violence continues to rise in Georgia. Food Marts and Gas Stations are hot spots for violence and because bullets have no names, innocent bystanders are injured or killed.
What Can Businesses Do to Combat the Violence?
Legal contributor Attorney Brian Mickelsen, an experienced wrongful death lawyer, has represented many families of those killed or injured by the actions or negligence of others. Mr. Mickelsen offered the following commentary on Georgia’s growing violence:
“Businesses play an important part in addressing Georgia’s gun violence problem. Far too often, business owners allow crime, loitering, vandalism, and drug activity to happen on their property without addressing it. What appears to be a non-violent crime, in a matter of seconds, can turn deadly. This is precisely why businesses should maintain open lines of communication with local law enforcement. Request the crime stats. Stay informed about what happens on your property. Trespass loiters and dangerous persons. Maintain adequate lighting. Clean up the graffiti. Install cameras that actually work. And hire a security guard where necessary.”
