Inadequate Security At Apartments? One Man Shot and Killed at the Crystal at Camp Creek Apartments in College Park, GA
The Atlanta Journal Constitution just reported that a shooting took place Wednesday morning, May 18, 2022, at an apartment complex at 2700 block of Camp Creek Parkway in College Park, Georgia. The apartment complex is known as Commons at Camp Creek Apartments. According to police, one male was shot and killed. His identity has not been disclosed. The investigation is ongoing.
Investigation and Questions
Because details are so limited, many important questions remain about this incident. As they pertain to a civil case, important questions and areas of investigation might include:
Did the victim and the shooter know each other or have a prior history?
Did the shooter have a significant criminal history?
Was the shooter a tenant or a known person at this apartment complex?
What is the history of prior crime and police response at, and around, the Camp Creek Apartments?
What security measures were in place at the Camp Creek Apartments?
Where, precisely, did the shooting take place?
These questions can help begin painting a clearer picture of why this incident occurred and whether it could have been prevented. Although nothing can bring back a loved one taken too early by gun violence, answers and understanding can help in the long journey to healing.
How to Prevent Violence and Crime at Apartment Complexes?
Legal contributor Attorney Brian Mickelsen, an experienced crime victim lawyer, represents crime victims and gunshot victims injured or killed in shootings, stabbings, and assaults at apartment complexes and commercial properties.
“Owners and property managers can and should take reasonable steps to help prevent violence on their properties – for example, adequate lighting, controlled-access gates, fences, courtesy officers, security patrols, off-duty officers, trespass lists, and cameras. It is also important for property owners to request and monitor crime data to get a better idea of what is happening at and around the property. Owners and managers should request for the 9-1-1 calls for service logs, crime grids, and actual police reports. You can’t prevent all crime, but property owners should certainly take steps to discourage it from occurring on the property.”
